CONFERENCE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When will registration open for the 2009 Raleigh Conference?
Registration for the 2009 conference will open online on 1st December 2008.
Registration brochures will be available in January 2009.
What is the proper attire for NGS Conferences?
Anything goes - casual or smart. Most attendees dress casually throughout
the day, and dress up more for social events. Whatever you are comfortable
with. We would advise you to wear good walking shoes, as you will need
to walk between sessions and in the exhibit hall. We would also advise
you to bring layers - lecture rooms can be slightly warm or slightly
chilly.
Are Conference Sessions Being Taped this Year in Raleigh?
Yes - JAMB will be recording sessions and they will be available for purchase
on CD during the conference on-site and after the conference from their
website. Please note that only speakers who gave permission to be taped
will have their lecture(s) taped.
I am a Complete Beginner - are NGS Conferences Suitable for
me?
Absolutely - complete beginners are very welcome, and encouraged, at NGS
conferences. We will have numerous sessions that the beginner will find
educational and illuminating. The exhibit hall will also be of much use
to the beginner - featuring exhibits of genealogical software, books, resesarch
aids, genealogical and historical societies and much much more.
I do more than just North Carolina research - therefore will
this conference be for me?
Yes - all NGS Conferences in the States are geared towards ALL researchers,
wherever their interests lie. Each year the conference is held in a different
city and state for the convenience of our members all throughout the US,
and each year the main focus is on a certain geographical area and research
in that area - but all our conference programs contain sessions on many
different research locations and records - including ethnic research.
Can I Volunteer to Help at an NGS Conference?
Yes certainly - we would love to have you - please contact Cathyelias@aol.com for further information on volunteering at the Raleigh conference in
2009.
Where are the sessions and all events held?
All sessions will be at the Raleigh Convention Center, which is connected
to the Raleigh Marriott Hotel. Exhibits will be at the Raleigh Conventin
Center.
What does my Conference Registration include?
The full conference registration includes admittance to all sessions/lectures.
Luncheons and social events (such as the NGS Banquet) are an additional
charge/fee. One day registrations include admittance to all sessions/lectures
on that particular dday. Workshops are also an additional fee.
Do I need to be a Librarian to sign up for the Librarians
Program?
No - this is not a requirement, however the program is aimed at librarians.
Do I have to pay for a Conference Registration if I just want
to attend one workshop?
Yes - you are required to be registered for the confernece on the day of
the workshop - either a full registration, or a one day registration on
the day of the workshop.
I only want to attend a Social Event at the Conference - therefore,
do I have to register for the conference?
No - you may do a "Social Only" registration and just pay to attend the
social event - be it a luncheon or dinner.
I have registered for the Conference and need to make changes
to this - how can I do that?
Please email our registrar, Compton@ngsgenealogy.org to have these changes
made. If you only wish to change a session that is part of the full conference
registration, there is no need for you to notify us of this change. We
collect information on the sessions you wish to attend only for planning
purposes. If it is a paid session or social event we need to make this
change for you and should be notified for these.
If you do not find the answer to your question here, please
email Lund@ngsgenealogy.org.
