Committees
The programs of the National Genealogical Society are administered by committees operating under the Board of Directors and at the pleasure of the president.
- NGS GENTECH Advisory Committee
GENTECH, a division of the National Genealogical Society, facilitates communication among persons interested in genealogy and technology. Through presenting national conferences, sponsoring programs with other societies, and publishing white papers based on analyses of problems of common interest to genealogists and technologists, we seek to maximize the movement of knowledge among the members of our constituencies.
- Awards
The NGS Awards program recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to NGS programs or have performed outstanding work in the fields of genealogy, history, biography, or heraldry.
- Consumer Protection Committee
The Consumer Protection Committee maintains a list of questionable products that may be of little genealogical substance.
- The Family Health and Heredity Committee
The Family Health & Heredity Committee advances and promotes the research of ancestral medical information in genealogy.
- Family History Writing Contest
The Family History Writing Contest recognizes writers of exceptional family histories.
- The Filby Prize
The Filby Prize recognizes outstanding librarians who serve genealogists.
- Genealogical Standards Committee
The Genealogical Standards Committee develops standards and guidelines in response to needs it perceives and recommendations from Society members.
- Genealogical Writing Competitions
The Genealogical Writing Competitions program recognizes excellence, scholarship, and achievements in the field of genealogy.
- NGS Hall of Fame
The National Genealogy Hall of Fame honors those individuals of the past who made significant contributions to genealogy.
- The Records Preservation and Access Committee
The Records Preservation and Access Committee seeks to ensure access to historical records of genealogical value.
- Rubincam Youth Award
The Rubincam Youth Award encourages the participation of young people in the field of genealogy.
- Youth Resources Committee
The Youth Resources Committee gathers genealogical resources for teachers and children aged 5 to 18.
