Deadline for Submission — 31 December Annually

This annual competition is an effort by the National Genealogical Society to recognize the hard work, long hours and creativity that editors devote to their newsletters.

Categories

1. Major Genealogical and/or Historical Societies
2. County/Local Genealogical and/or Historical Societies
3. Family Associations

Requirements

Please copy the Application Form

1. Each applicant must be an NGS member organization.
2. Newsletter must be submitted by the society or association—not by an individual.
3. Three copies of two consecutive issues from the current year must be submitted along with the completed entry form.
4. Deadline for submission is 31 December.

Evaluation

1. A panel of three judges will review both issues of your newsletter on the following criteria:
   • Material interest, variety and originality
   • Writing and editing quality
   • Readability and attractiveness
   • Overall publication makeup
2. Your newsletter will not be evaluated on the correctness of its genealogical content.

Results

1. The panel’s comments will be evaluated and tallied.
2. The president of each entry organization will be notified of the competition results.
3. A representative of the winning organization will be presented a certificate at the opening session of the NGS Annual Conference the following May.
4. The winning society or association in each of the three categories will receive a complimentary one–year organizational NGS membership.
