2008 NGS Fall Research Trip to Salt Lake City.9 November - 15 November 2008 The trip is now full. You may register online to be added to the waitlist.
The Library The Family History Library in Salt Lake City is the largest genealogical library in the world. You will have access to more than two million rolls of microfilm (more than 142,000 square feet on five floors), hundreds of thousands of microfiche, and a huge collection of genealogical books. The library opens at 8:00 a.m. and is open until 9:00 p.m. every day, except Monday, when the library closes at 5:00 p.m., and Sundays and certain holidays, when it is closed all day. The Trip Directors Sandra MacLean Clunies, CG, and Shirley Langdon Wilcox, CG, FNGS, will lead this trip. Both Sandra and Shirley are experienced researchers familiar with the extensive resources available at the Family History Library™ of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City. Sandy Clunies is an experienced researcher, author, and lecturer, certified by BCG since 1993. She is a Life Member of NGS and NEHGS, and is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of APG, and as President of its National Capital Area Chapter. Her personal research has a focus on colonial New England and Nova Scotia, but client work has involved many other geographic areas and time periods. She is a registrar for many lineage societies including DAR, Colonial Dames 17th Century, and NSUS Daughters of 1812 and has prepared over sixty approved applications in the past three years. Shirley served two terms as NGS President and has been a Certified GenealogistSM since 1973. As a native Californian, she has experience tracing her own lines from New England and the South across the country to Northern California in the 1850s1870s. As a professional genealogist she has compiled lineages for clients whose ancestors lived in many geographic regions. Shirley was president of the Association of Professional Genealogists from 19911993 and currently serves on the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the District of Columbia, Board for Certification of Genealogists, and is the president of Virginia Genealogical Society. All registrants will receive information and advice about pre-trip planning. In addition, once in Salt Lake City, each participant will have the opportunity for ongoing consultation with Sandra and Shirley.
The trip package price includes seven nights at the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel, located next door to the Family History Library™. The Plaza is ideally located, not only for access to the library but also within walking distance of two shopping malls, movie theaters, restaurants, and clubs. Also included are an informal reception on the first Sunday evening, pizza on Wednesday evening, and a last night dinner. Other meals will be on your own. A list of nearby restaurants will be provided. There is a restaurant in the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel. Other Expenses Airfare is not included in the package price. Participants are responsible for meals other than those described above and for all personal expenses. Cancellations The trip is planned for 30 participants. NGS would prefer that you pay by credit card. We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express. If you are paying in two equal installments, your card will be charged on 1 August and 1 September 2008. If you are making a full payment, your card will be charged on 1 September 2008.
