The Southern Genealogist's Exchange Society is pleased
to bring to Jacksonville another experienced researcher. Come and meet Mrs. Patricia
Barefoot of Quarantine
Island, Georgia.
She is the guest speaker on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Mandarin Regional
Library, 3330 Kori Road, Jacksonville, Florida at 10:15 AM. in the Community
Meeting Room. She will bring information on "Chasing Family History in
the Georgia Piedmont."
Mrs. Barefoot is an 8th generation Glynn County, Georgia resident. She holds
an A.B. in History and a M.A. in Anthropology. She has served as Park Ranger
with collateral duties as Volunteer Coordinator, Curator/Collection Manager.
Most recently a three year service as Regional Historic Preservation Planner,
Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center.
Mrs. Barefoot has authored four books: (1998) Falling for Coastal Magic, Stories
of S.E. Georgia; (2000) Images of America, Brunswick the City by the Sea; (2001)
Images of America, St. Mary's and Camden County; (2004) Images of America,
Cumberland Island.

The Washington State Genealogical Society Conference and Annual Meeting, hosted
by the Skagit Valley Genealogical Society, will be held in Mount Vernon, Washington on May 16-17, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, 1607 Division Street,
Mount Vernon. Featured speaker will be Kory Meyerink of Salt Lake City with
a bonus presentation on Friday evening and a total of 16 sessions on Saturday,
May 17 with numerous programs with a good selection of knowledgeable presenters.

MTGS Annual Awards Program:
Place: Knowles Senior Center, Nashville, Tennesee at 1:00 pm
Guest Speaker: George Zepp, Nashville historian and author of the "Learn
Nashville" column in the Tennessean.
He will judge the $100. Writer's Award for the best article in the 2007 MTGS
Journal. The Distinguished Service Award will be presented as well as other Awards
of Merit. Come, enjoy the refreshments and other festivities for our 21st birthday.

Middle Tennessee Genealogy Society Bible Project comes to an end on May 17,
2008. Knowles Senior Center, Nashville, Tennesee at 1 pm.
This is your last chance to get your old Bibles in this Project. We have digitally
photographed Bibles in Nashville, and surrounding counties. This work will be
available in DVD and book form at the end of 2008. Please don't be left out.

Roots and Branches Genealogical
Society of West Volusia County, Florida meets in the Auditorium
of the DeLand Public Library, 130 East Howry Avenue, at 2:00 PM
on the third Sunday from September through June. In addition to May’s general
meeting on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 2:00 PM, some of the members will be going
on a field trip down to the Orlando Library
to learn out about the records in the Genealogy section of the library. The
librarians from the Genealogy section will be speaking about and showing us
the records available at the Orlando Library. Some of the members will be meeting
at the DeLand Public Library at 12:00 Noon to carpool to the Orlando Library.
