Former Rubincam Youth Award Winners
D. Joshua Taylor "Josh" is a nationally known and recognized genealogical author, lecturer, and researcher. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in history at BYU Idaho, Josh began doing genealogy when he was 10 years old; and at 11 he began volunteering at the BYU Idaho (then Ricks College) Family History Center. He is listed in Who’s Who among American Students in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Josh is a file manager, and county coordinator for several areas within the USGenWeb Project, in addition he serves on the project’s Election Committee as a Representative At Large. In 2001, Josh set up the Youth Chapter to the Utah Genealogical Association (UGA) where he formerly served as the president. He also served as Recording Secretary, Conference Exhibit Chairman (2003 and 2004) and Parliamentarian for UGA. Josh has lectured for youth groups and other genealogical organizations throughout the United States including the 2004 NGS GENTECH conference. He is the recipient of UGA's Distinguished Service Award for 2003 and 2004. Currently, Josh is organizing celebrations for USGenWeb's 10th Anniversary, to be held in 2006. Mr. Taylor received the award for his work on the Brown family which culminated in a book, The History of the Brown Family in New York and Idaho which chronicles four generations of the Brown family from their native town of Cornwall, New York, to the homesteading lands of Idaho and Oregon. The work includes the biographies of Nathaniel Brown (1786 1874); Josiah Quimby Brown (1825 1909); Nathaniel Rider King Brown (1870 1955), and Golda Ruth Brown (1903 1995). Each biography is based upon materials gathered from Quaker meeting records, newspaper articles, personal family records, and other basic genealogical sources. |
