About NGS

Ways to Donate/Support NGS

We have exciting news!

For the first time, NGS has a matching gift opportunity to support and expand our programs. For all donations received from November 10 thru December 10, 2020, Ancestry.com and other generous donors have pledged matching donations of more than $25,000 to the National Genealogical Society.

Donate Now!

We are launching #NGSGivingDays on 10 November 2020 to spotlight the need to constantly invest in vital programs, to continue offering the most current knowledge, and promote leadership in the field of genealogy. Please use our hashtag #NGSGivingDays and link to Donate Now! [https://ngsmembers.ngsgenealogy.org/donate-now] to spread the word about the matching gift program.

Matching Donations

The effects of COVID-19 have been felt by all organizations and NGS is no exception. Your support in 2020 is crucial to continue the mission of the organization. If you can, please consider making a donation.

Help us maximize our $25,000 matching funds opportunity. Every dollar you donate through December 10th will double in value up to $25,000 from the matching fund. For example:

What Your Donation Means

Your donation will help NGS to accomplish many new goals this year.

  • The NGS merger with FGS has united individual genealogists with genealogy societies and organizations, giving the #NewNGS a powerful voice in protecting access to local, regional, and national genealogically significant records.
  • We will build on new and innovative conference services delivered in the midst of the pandemic.
  • We will develop exciting new online courses to add to the DNA, Transcription, and Reading Old Handwriting courses introduced this year.
  • We will add more robust tools and resources to the website for our new society and organization members.

This and much more are in the planning stages for the coming year.

Please join us in helping the #NewNGS continue its important work with individual genealogists and genealogy societies and organizations! Donate now on our secure website or call 703-525-0050.

Thank you for your generous support!

Donate to NGS Through Amazon Smile

What is AmazonSmile?

AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support the National Genealogical Society (NGS)—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization—every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same selection as at Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to NGS.

How do I shop at AmazonSmile?
To shop at AmazonSmile simply go to smile.amazon.com from the web browser on your computer or mobile device. You may also want to add a bookmark to smile.amazon.com to make it even easier to return and start your shopping at AmazonSmile.

Can I use my existing Amazon.com account on AmazonSmile?
Yes, you use the same account on Amazon.com and AmazonSmile. Your shopping cart, Wish List, wedding or baby registry, and other account settings are also the same.

How do I select a charitable organization to support when shopping on AmazonSmile?
On your first visit to AmazonSmile, you need to select a charitable organization to receive donations from eligible purchases before you begin shopping. To start generating donations to NGS from the Amazon Smile Foundation, go to AmazonSmile and log into the site using your existing Amazon.com email and password. Under the Account drop-down, select “Your AmazonSmile,” and search for the “National Genealogical Society.” Select the National Genealogical Society as your designated charity. Every eligible purchase you make at Smile.Amazon.com will result in a donation.

How much of my purchase does Amazon donate?
The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price from your eligible AmazonSmile purchases. The purchase price is the amount paid for the item minus any rebates and excluding shipping and handling, gift-wrapping fees, taxes, or service charges.
