ORGANIZATION MEMBER BENEFITS

Official Administrator and Delegate

NGS asks every member organization to appoint two roles: a delegate and an administrator. Those people are the primary conduits for the relationship between your organization and NGS.

The admin is the person assigned to manage your membership with NGS. This can include updating the delegate’s name, maintaining contact information in the NGS database, and logging in to the website to access resources or pay dues. The delegate serves as the official representative of your organization to NGS. The delegate brings your needs and ideas to NGS, shares information from NGS with your organization, casts your organization’s votes for the Board of Directors, and is a member of the Delegate Council (an advisory body within NGS).

For more information on both roles, see Delegates and Administrators.

NGS Magazine

Available quarterly in digital format or in print by mail for an additional $35/year (print cost includes NGSQ as well).

A top benefit for NGS individual members, with articles on effectively using records for family history research—i.e., vital records, immigration, land, and courthouse records—and columns on genetic genealogy, repositories, technology, writing, etc. NGS Magazine features many “how to” articles and uses “show” and “tell” to teach family historians how to succeed across a wide variety of genealogical resources by learning best practices. Society and organization content is now available in NGS Magazine too.

Organizations have a limited license to use NGS Magazine as a library lending resource for access by one organization member at a time.

NGS Quarterly (NGSQ)

Available quarterly in digital format or in print by mail for an additional $35/year (print cost includes NGS Magazine as well).

A leading scholarly journal in the field, highly in demand for its case studies and genealogies, essays on methodology, and book reviews. The NGSQ is one of the most important reference and teaching tools in genealogy.

The NGSQ, edited by recognized scholars in the field, publishes peer-reviewed articles which focus on methodology and how researchers have used research results to form or support conclusions about family connections and identity. The NGSQ is recognized by every top-level genealogical teaching program for its case histories—an invaluable tool in teaching research methodology.

Organizations have a limited license to use the NGS Quarterly as a library lending resource for access by one organization member at a time.

Discounts on the NGS Family History Conference for Three Organizational Leaders

Each year, NGS hosts its Family History Conference which attracts family historians and genealogists with several days of outstanding lectures, special events, and unique resources in the Expo Hall. Discounts on NGS Store Purchases

Organization members receive merchandise discounts. You can submit a purchase order for the items you want to purchase or your account administrator can purchase items in the NGS Store at the member rate. NGS also offers bulk discounts if organizations purchase five books or more. Contact [email protected] for discount rates and shipping information.

NGS Awards and National Genealogy Hall of Fame

Organization members may nominate candidates for the National Genealogy Hall of Fame. There are also several award categories that recognize organizations and their members. Learn more about all of NGS’s Awards and the nominating process.

NGS Membership Year

The NGS membership year is twelve months following sign-up or renewal. To provide uninterrupted service, members are notified two months before their membership expiration date. NGS does not automatically renew memberships nor will we ever sell your information.
