2026 Annual Campaign

Meet Judy G. Russell, 2026 Annual Campaign Chair

Judy G. Russell

As a genealogist with a law degree, someone who spends her days navigating the sometimes-murky intersection of law and family history, I know firsthand that strong research rests on strong standards. Records don’t simply appear out of thin air. They’re created by laws, shaped by legal systems, and preserved—or lost—depending on the commitment of institutions and advocates. NGS has long stood at the center of that work. For more than 120 years, the National Genealogical Society has championed the preservation and access of records, genealogical education, and sharing and networking in our community. Those principles are not abstract ideals. They are the foundation that makes our research possible.

Judy G. Russell

Judy G. Russell is the honorary chair of the National Genealogical Society’s 2026 Annual Campaign. Judy G. Russell, JD, CG, CGL, FUGA, The Legal Genealogist®, is a genealogist with a law degree who provides expert guidance through the murky territory where law and family history intersect. An internationally known lecturer and award-winning writer, she holds credentials as a Certified Genealogist® and Certified Genealogical Lecturer® from the Board for Certification of Genealogists®, and is a Fellow of the Utah Genealogical Association. Her blog is at https://www.legalgenealogist.com.

Every family has a story, and every story has the potential to spark a revelation, evoke deep emotions, and forge connections that span generations. These are not merely stories of the past but pathways to better understanding ourselves. The National Genealogical Society is at the heart of this journey, working tirelessly to ensure our family histories remain intact, vibrant, and accessible.

But these endeavors need your support.

By contributing during the 2026 Annual Campaign, you’re not just donating; you’re securing a legacy, ensuring every narrative finds its voice and continues to inspire future generations. Whether it’s a name, a date, or a long-lost ancestor, a breakthrough awaits around every corner. And together, we can make these revelations possible for more people, profoundly impacting families and communities for centuries to come.
